WHat's The Big
Black IdEa?

The Big Black Idea is a long-term initiative to strengthen the ecosystem of Black political giving through research, strategy, and collaboration. It connects donors, organizers, and institutions to build sustainable infrastructure that reflects the full scope of Black political power. Grounded in data and driven by community, the project is focused on transforming generosity into influence — ensuring that Black political leaders, movements, and ideas have the consistent investment they need to thrive. Through partnerships, capacity-building, and a shared commitment to equity, The Big Black Idea is charting a path toward collective power that lasts far beyond any single election cycle.

Why ThEse States?

Senator Angela Alsobrooks D - Maryland

Our theory of change is rooted in the belief that power is sustained when politics, people, and procurement work in alignment. By investing in Black political leadership, we shape the policies and decisions that define our communities. By developing and connecting people — donors, organizers, strategists, and candidates — we strengthen the trust that fuels long-term impact. And by shifting procurement to prioritize Black-owned firms, vendors, and consultants, we ensure that resources driving progress circulate within our own ecosystems. When these three forces move together, we create a self-reinforcing cycle of investment, opportunity, and representation — transforming moments of visibility into lasting political and economic power.
